According to Motor Trend the project has been axed because of budget cuts.  Too bad.
Can't say too much about it....but the GR-1 has not been axed yet. The FORD GT is only going to be sold through next year (2007MY). For the 2008MY the Ford supercar is either going to be the GR-1(shown above) or the Shelby Cobra Concept(the reason why the new SVT Mustang is called GT500 and not Cobra). They are both on the table for 2008MY because they both use the existing powertrain from the FORD GT. Ford's ultimate plan is to continue the Ford supercar offerings long enough to have both come to market over the next 6-8 years. The plan was always to only offer these cars for a term of 3 years each and never at the same time to retain the seriously inflated value (currently $70,000 over MSRP!!!!).
