Chris I already use Synthetic for the tranny.

BTW if it is the final drive then why would it only happen when I am on the gas and not when coasting in gear?

Also if you read my original post the sound from within the car sounds like a "whine" but from outside it sounds more like a metal on metal contact? Also when i let off the gas why does it sound like the noise is a "spinning type noise that is slowing down". Doesn't the FD spin all of the time when you are moving and not only when you are on the throttle?
I am not challenging anybody / anything I am just trying to understand the mechanics of what might be causing the noise.
