John the tranny fluid was changed earlier this year and I put in Mobil 1 Synthetic. If it looks like it is just the FD I would consider changing out the fluid just as an experiment to see if anything changes.

BTW .... no autocrossing here.... pure open track events only. Nonetheless it will still heat up the tranny.

Gear will whine if they donâ??t mesh perfectly. If a gear set is not cut as a set, it will make noise. Improper installation., too much or too little backlash or improper centre distance spacing can make gears â??singâ? a little too. Tooth design and cross sectional profile shape will also make gears whine. Herring bone cut gears are always loud, straight cut gears are loud too. Sometimes this is necessary to make a gear set strong. I think, in your case, this is either installation error or more likely manufacturer error of the gear set.

If this noise was there after install, you should have taken the car back to the shop and complained.

Also, sometimes damaged or worn out bearings can make noises like this too. If the bearings were damaged during the swap, the noise would make sense.

I hope this helps.

Fern, I'd be interested in hearing this from the outside. I've heard it from the inside before, and my car exhibits gear rollever and pp rattle. I think it's just the nature of running an alu flywheel and a HD PP.

Thx everyone... I will be offering up rides in the car with a few people over the next little while to see what people think the noise could be. If anyone local is interested in hearing what this sounds like send me a PM and we can hook up over the weekend. I just want to get as many opinions as I can before I start tearing things out looking for a problem that may or may not exist.

Thx guys

Fern
