Oh, I'm close to being damn-sure it wasn't for you. I think you can rest comfortable in your bed tonight knowing that despite what most US soldiers are trained to say, a good many of them probably rather resent putting their lives on the line for a certain percentage of the US population, no matter WHAT the cause. I could be wrong, though...

As for the question "What did he die for?":

Duty. The chance for Iraqi freedom and democracy, as well as protecting US interests abroad. Period.

Are Iraqis not worth dying for, especially now if we pull out and let the place turn into a cesspool of civil war, thereby losing 100x the lives lost daily now?

Is Capt. Hindsight telling me that the entire planet knew of these KEY facts before the invasion? If so and if you want to hop into Wonderland for a while and totally ignore the impetus that 9/11 served, you might have a point.

Otherwise...

Iraq has become somewhat of a self-fulfilling prophecy; no, it wasn't the terrorist hotbed and chem factory that every intelligence agency on the planet made it out to be and what Iraq ITSELF pretended to be for so long. However, due to one of the most twisted and perverse ironies in modern history, it has been in the throes of becoming just that with a select group of international powers doing their best in difficult circumstances to keep the lid on those that wish to turn Iraq into even MORE of a bloodbath that it already has been.

It's called making the best of a bad situation; it was a train-wreck before we got there and even though it's still one now, it NEVER would have had a chance to become something better than that if the US and other hadn't of intervened for what has apparently been with the best of intentions but ultimately what has turned out to be many a wrong reason.
