The 98+ SE lost all the cool stuff the Pre-98 SE's had as standard features, instead of being optional. Ford sucks.

"Four versions of the Contour are being offered for 1998. The entry-level GL and mid-level LX use the "Zetec" engine. The SE is powered by the "Duratec" 2.5-liter V6, and was the sports-luxury sedan of the line until the mid-year introduction of the limited- production SVT. The SVT has a tuned version of the Duratec engine with more power and a sport-tuned suspension, and slightly different trim. "

confused now... but he goes on to say

"I did have a chance to drive an SVT at Sears Point International Raceway earlier in the year, and found it to be a quick and wonderfully-handling, world-class small sports sedan."

which im sure is a repost but cool *WORLD CLASS*

This might clear up some confusion for you. This is directly from the FAQ on the main page of this site.

Quote:

It gets even more confusing with the new 1998.5 models, where essentially the GL is gone, the LX is what the GL used to be and the SE is basically the LX. The available "sport" package on the SE gets you up the the relatively same level as the 1998 SE. A 4-cylinder SE with steel wheels? Yes, it's now possible (how awful!)

Mine has the V6

(although I wish it were running at normal temperature ... at the moment it's much too warm, but not quite overheating.. )

However, that's about all I've got, along with power windows, locks, alloys, and the stiffer suspension. I don't have the leather steering wheel or leather ATX shifter, fold down rear seats, intermittent wipers (changed that!!), nor a host of other little things you'd think would be included in the package.

No, they renamed the GL the SE. And the old style SE was dropped.

"I thought (insert major incorrect car assumption)"

It is funny the newbies don't read the FAQ's. And where do some get their "thoughts" about cars?
