I posted in the classifieds for cars wanted and I got a response.. need to get a little advice on what you guys think
"i have a 98 contour svt that i am selling for 5,000. i just recently put a 3.0L in the car back in January. the engine work cost was 5,000 so im letting the car go for just about nothing. the car needs a back bumper and needs a ac compesser. it also needs the airbags put back in, the title is clear but it has no airbags. let me know what you think."
(same guy emailed back)
"i dont have any pictures right now and i dont know when i can get some. the car was involved in a small reck the deployed the air bags, the car does not have a salvage title. the motor was done by a ford performance shop here where i live. the 3.0L came out of a 2002 escape, it has about 10,000-15,000 on it now. all it needs is a little body work and you will have a nice car. the reason im letting the car go is that i really dont have the money to finish the car, im trying to pay for school. im losing on the car but i need to get rid of it. the car drives great, it has roughly about 230 whp and about 260 flbs. thats alot more then stock."
Should I jump for joy and go get my saved up pennies?

That sounds kinda fishy to me. Hell at least get some pics of the car first...

I doubt that 230 fwhp number, and the 260 flbs is ridiculous. I think most 3 liters make around 210. Maybe he is just estimating, badly. I don't know that I would buy a 3.0L SVT without knowing many details about what/how it was done.

Repairs to small wrecks can be a few thousand dollars (especially one which deployed the air bags). In addition, a/c compressor and back bumper was mentioned by you (another $1000 or so). I would want to inspect it real well before deciding.

Stay away! Stay FAR... FAR AWAY!! Airbags aren't exactly cheap, nor is a rear bumper + paint. His HP/TQ claims are atrocious!! And no pics?? Sounds like the guy is trying to sell a beat up car to someone that doesn't know much about them.

This person that responded to you. Is he/she a member here? If so, who? Perhaps it could shed some light on the situation.
I would also try to get photos of the vehicle damage, just to see how bad it was to start. I mean, would you really want a car that had the front end cut off and another one welded on?
