I just noticed this today. When my Contour is idling with the A/C system turned on, I can see the clutch on the A/C compressor engaging, and then disengaging. It doesn't stay constantly engaged, despite having the A/C switch turned on.

Does anyone know what is causing this?

"Here in Canada, R134a is not sold to the general public. The AC shops chanrge an arm and a leg to refill a system." Imo000.

If it was not very warm out (70 degrees F), some cycling is normal. If it goes a few seconds on, then off, on,off, etc, then you may have a low charge. The a/c pipe should get cold near the driver's side of the radiator, if it does not you have low charge. The radiator fan should also be running steady whenever the a/c is on, even when cycling. What engine is in your Festiva?
