I think the arguement of regular school vs. year long takes a back seat to what is being taught. I learned almost nothing in high school and had over a 4.0gpa. Slept in most classes, etc. I know south georgia is a lot worse than other places, but I can't imagine it being too different elsewhere. I was completely unprepared for college. Schools need to take on a more college like feel. Classes more orientated to what the student wants to focus on, harder tests, and more educating. I feel like other than learning to read, write, and do basic arithmetic, my first 13 years of education were pretty useless. Sure kids will whine about how hard school is, but it needs to be.

I also don't believe in mandatory attendance at school. If kids don't want to be there and their parents won't make them be there, don't force them to be there. They end up being distractions to other students.

I also don't think finances need to be focused on in schools. It's something that is relatively easy to learn from experience and classes are offered outside of high school that can teach finances.
