Anyone have Boston SL80 5 by 7 plate speakers in their Tour? I can't find a review of them.

I have the NX67's 6.5" 2-way coaxials. Up front with homemade adapter plates. They are amazing. After I pay the car off I plan on getting SL60 components. Boston rocks, get um, i'm sure you won't be disapointed.

The SL 80's should even be better, I figure.

I thought for the money they were a very good sounding speaker. I eventualy upgraded to the Boston Z6's but that's a whole other game there. You will not be disapointed with the SL80's.

Did the SL80's fit the doors easily and do the Z6's fit in the door OK? They look substantial.

Z6's need an adapter plate, that they actually come with I believe. They're round speakers (just like my nx67's, but I made my own plate). SL80's are round, but plate mounted so they're ready to go.

Yeah, Jimbo's right... They came with a factory plate. And they weren't too deep for the window either so it was a great choice. Honestly, it's the best sounding speaker I've heard in a contour. Other people complain about them being too sharp but I think that either they haven't tuned them properly and/or they've never heard then in a contour or off the showroom wall.

Z6's Tweeter level must have needed cutting. That is something I am concerned about, I don't like "sharp" highs. I note, there is a level control for tweeter and bass response adjustment in the large crossover box.

I didn't need to cut the tweeters from the crossover - all my tuning was done via HU. Like I said before - once you get the speakers in the car they sound differently than they do on the wall of the audio shop. You have the rest of your system working with it and you also have the Contour's acousticaly poor nature to contend with. It's been my experience that tweeter location has more to do with "sharpness" than speaker specifications in a car. I kept the tweeter on the bridge in front of the driver ala coaxial. For me it kept the soundstaging correct and it kept the tweeter from blowing my brains out which it's fully capable of. I run my crossover in Bi-Amp, 0db and SQ1.

I will just have to find a local dealer, so I can hear them. Do you have Z6's in the rear doors too, or something more basic?
