http://www.autolite.com/framer.cgi?page=http://www.autolite.com/news/114.htmIt sounds like Autolite is finally marketing a fine wire plug. Autolite is the main vendor that suplies Ford with Motorcraft spark plugs. They have been supplying Ford with a fine wire plug since at least the 1996 model year. It has been original equipment on the Duratec V6 since then.
From what I can tell, the Autolite XP may be a better plug than the Motorcraft OEM plug. I'm pretty sure that the original plugs in my car did not have a platinum side wire.
There will always be a debate as to which is better, a fine wire plug or a conventional plug with a full sized center wire. I don't buy the "21%" bigger flame kernel.
It definitely would be worth trying. The biggest complaint I had about the Motorcraft fine wire plugs was the lack of platinum on the side wire.
I'm not sure that it would really be worth the difference in cost between an Autolite double platinum plug though.
