sounds like aamco took you for all you are worth. Your trannie is overheating. I suggest you get a really good aftermarket trannie cooler and have it installed, though it already may be too late. People around here have experianced an overheating automatic a lot. Hector put a trannie cooler on his auto and after 140K miles it still shifts wounderfully (jeez hector, your contour is one hell of an example).
As for your 1-2 gear harsh shift, this also is a common issue. Its called a bang shift, you need the updated shift sensor (TSS) from ford... Costs about $20 and takes you 15 minutes to install...
