Hey guys, I'm wondering if anyone knows a good website for learning how to mold 2 bumpers together, or if someone has personal experience and can help me. I'm likely getting my hands on an E46 M3 rear bumper cover and am thinking of a winter project molding it to a stock contour rear cover, but I've never done this before and need guidance. Any and all help is appreciated.

Send Jim(BeyondloadedSE) a PM. He molded his pre98 SE(upper half) and SVT(lower half) together. He can tell you all the products he used and how to go about doing it.

Sounds like an awesome project Shawn! I too would love how to mold things like that.

I molded my mirko to my SVT bumper and Exdelayed has gone even further and molded a GTP front bumper with his pre-98, which turned out

You mate them with tons of rivits or self tapping sheet metal screws and metal strapping on the back side. Then there is a product called Duramix 4040 that you can use to combine the two bumper sections together. Duramix also makes a pin hole filler that you glaze over it all once the 4040 has been sanded down to fill any minor stuff. Then you do the basic prep on for urethane bumpers and prime it and paint it.

That's a basic run through, as there is a lot of cutting sections out of the bumper you're trying to mold into the Contour bumper and other fitting aspects that need a lot of attention.

Drerok molded a Cobra-R lower section to his front bumper and that's who Exdelayed got a lot of his info from IIRC.

Finally, someone else who has heard of duramix. Some of the best stuff to use when it comes to attaching anything together that is plastic/urethane/composite. I used it to adhere my evo bodykit onto my tour'. You can check it out on cardomain if you want to http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2075887 .
This sort of bodywork is very involving but can be done. Usually cut the tops off of the bumpers you want to (just to get rid of the mounts and pices that go around the lights and grilles) and cut your bottom off and match the two. Drywall screws (nice and sharp)for temporary sets work well. I like to make sure my bumpers are flexable urethane so they don't break when they get hit. There are some books available at barnes and noble that may help. If you have any freinds that own or work at a body shop, you can learn alot just by hanging out and helping a bit.

evo - very nice setup you have man! You've definitely got a LOT of work into your car! The back seats look incredible! I will say that I'm not much of a fan of the front end, but it does look extremely well done. And once you get the engine bay painted, you'll be set. How's the ATX holding up with the 50/100 shots?
