I too started to notice that my headlights were starting to fade and turn an ugly yellow-ish tint. Turns out the first layer of plastic was chipping off, so I actually took the wifes clear fingernail polish and put a thin layer over it. It actually worked and you can't tell until you get REALLY close to them.
