OK, so i've been a windows user since 3.1, have installed and un-installed Linux a few times. But now I am DEDICATING my laptop to Linux (Kubuntu if ya wanna know). I am looking for a good resource (preferably online) to help teach me Linux, all these new file extensions and the file structure are foreign to me! Any suggestions? I am looking for YOUR personal choices. BESIDES GOOGLE!!!!

Defacto: Linux for Dummies, O'Reilly: Learning the Unix Operation System.
After that: man (as in `man mount`)...
Then... I suggest building {insert your favorite distro of choice here} from soup to nuts.

Hmmmm, linux as a desktop, let's see. I travel for work and use airport Wifi a lot=can you say SECURITY? When I surf at home, can you say SECURITY?
On a 1.8ghz P4 512MB of RAM Linux is a speed demon!

I agree... I played around with different Linux versions. Not very compatible with a lot of my hardware, plus most mainstream apps don't work. Maybe if I learned a little more and how to complile stuff I could figure those problems out, but I'm too lazy for that now.
A few years ago I worked at a computer shop and a customer had us replace all their old computers (win98 era) with new ones (P4/XP stuff) and 1 Compaq Linux file/print server. Let's just say it sucked trying to set it all up, then out of the blue I got it working. Dunno what I configured, but it worked, so I left it at that. Good thing was it was WAY faster than the old win98 machine it replaced...

Shutting down the Server service and enabling windows firewall seems to get you secure enough.
Linux is more secure by obscurity, but dependency hell and just the feel of the various x desktops turn me off.
I suppose its come a long way from when I last had to use x in the fvwm days, but I still dont' feel like futzing with XF86Config and editing stuff manually by hand and restarting, and bleh.
Linux desktops are the complete opposite of Linux servers. Linux servers are hassle-free no-maintenance systems while desktops are just to time consuming ...

I'm a Linux admin too, and I agree 100%. The only thing suckier than Linux on a desktop is Windows on a server. Each OS has its place.
