I understand that you've ridden before, and are probably going smaller, so don't think I'm scolding you.

But please, please, take a riding course. Just riding around is much different than really learning total bike control. Get some seat time, and get proper grear: never ride without full leathers and helmet. Riding is very different from driving, as a slip-up in a car is almost always recoverable, and small accidents result in nary a scratch. On a bike, if yo go down, your life is at stake. Little bobbles that would mean nothing in a car can get your front tire loose, and send you down on your face. They are the cheapest, fastest end of the go-fast crack pipe, but they need respect.

Watch this, and always dress to crash, not to ride.

So go ahead, and buy a two-wheeled crack pipe, and enjoy yourself. Just treat it with respect.

EDIT: rider in the vid was fine, he wore the proper gear and it saved his life. Helmet, jacket, pants, back protector, boot, gloves. Don't go cheap, get stuff with good abrasion resistance and padding/reinforcement. Besides, it makes you look hardcore, and buying cool stuff is fun!
