If you have an open air filter in the engine bay (no heatshield), then you intake will heatsoak and you will noticeably lose power.

Make one any-way you can...As long as it is completely sealed from any engine heat. (both sides, underneath, and before the MAF....hood creates another side, now the only place left thats open to draw air in is from the fender which will supply cooler air)

I wonder, after you're done making this heatshield and sealing it around the filter.. is it really that much better than a stock SVT airbox?

I've gone through the KKM, K&N OEM drop-in, monsterflow foam filter (with and without the SCA CAI), the now-defunct SMA CAI, and now I'm back to the stock airbox again. Admittedly the KKM was without a heatshield, but really the only noticeable difference between any of these was sound level and a lighter wallet...

that is why just about anyone who knows anything has said that these will for the most part only give you a negligable gain in hp. any extra power noticed is most likely in your head, and the main advantage is simply the sound you get(and of course a re-usable filter)

I have an open ITG filter on the car. I have an SVT airbox in the garage. Just need to find time to test and swap.
