Shaking, smell, the-loss of power brakes.
On the way home from work this evening my CSVT started to shake when I got up to highway speed. So, I got off the highway and pulled onto a side street. I was checking the wheels/tires to see if I could tell what was making the car shake at high speeds.
That is when I noticed the smell of something burning. It smelled like burning clutch. However, the clutch is working fine, and was replaced about 14,000 miles (1.5 years) ago.
Anyway, I decided to take the back roads home. That is when I noticed a total loss of firmness in my brake pedal. I was still able to stop the car, but the loss of firmness in the brake pedal made the brakes feel unresponsive. It was frightening.
So I stopped again. The smell was still there and there was the sound of something sizzling as it dripped. There appeared to be no fluid of any kind on the ground. I could not see what was dripping. I only heard a sizzle about every 10 seconds. I checked all of my fluids and they all seemed to be fine.
Then, after driving very slow and carefully for about ten minutes, everything went back to normal. No more shaking at high speeds and the brakes worked fine. Also, I didn't notice the smell at all when I got home.
I am confused. Please help.
Recent problems I have had: 3rd gear synchro grinds, I changed the MTX fluid (with the honey) right when the 3rd synchro started to grind. The honey fluid helped but there is still a slight grind into 3rd. This was about 3 weeks ago. Also, my ABS computer fried out about a year ago.
Again, please help.
