The cost per plane includes R&D. Each plane gets cheaper, since actually building them is relatively cheap. An automobile takes $1 Billion dollars to design and produce, but that cost is spread out over many, many cars. The design of an airplane is much more complicated, and spread out over fewer aircraft. But as they revamp the plane and make more, they get cheaper per jet.
