14 million ? are you sure ? that seems a bit low

Each F-14A Tomcat cost more than 40 millions dollars and is one of the most costsome plane in the US Navy.

Yeah, but the Tomcats are way past the "A" variant and are being retired from service anyway. Bird strikes can bring down any plane (the Air Force lost a four-engined AWACS to a gaggle of geese in Alaska a while back).

Seems like the Navy would come up with a device to stop things like this from happening .

Aircraft, Fixed Wing
C-2A Greyhound logistics aircraft
C-9 Skytrain logistics aircraft
C-12F Huron logistics aircraft
C-20 Gulfstream logistics aircraft
C-130 Hercules logistics aircraft
C-40A Clipper logistics aircraft
E-2C Hawkeye early warning and control aircraft
E-6A Mercury airborne command post
EA-6B Prowler electronic warfare aircraft
EP-3E ARIES II signals intelligence reconnaissance aircraft
F-14 Tomcat fighter
F/A-18 Hornet strike fighter
Multi-Mission Maritime Aircraft (MMA)
P-3C Orion long range ASW aircraft
S-3B Viking detection and attack of submarines aircraft
T-2C Buckeye jet trainer
T-6A Texan II turboprop trainer
T-34C Turbomentor training aircraft
T-39N/G Sabreliner training aircraft

The cost per plane includes R&D. Each plane gets cheaper, since actually building them is relatively cheap. An automobile takes $1 Billion dollars to design and produce, but that cost is spread out over many, many cars. The design of an airplane is much more complicated, and spread out over fewer aircraft. But as they revamp the plane and make more, they get cheaper per jet.

The EA-6B "Prowler" and A-6 "intruder", are no longer serving with the navy. not ours at any rate. They were decommisioned in the early 90s after the first gulf war after 30+ years of service.

also the T-2 Buckeye was replaced by the T-45.

The New F/A-18E is set to Replace the S-3 Viking and any remaining EA-6B's<(ata refuelers). It will also Replace the F-14A/B/D/ And SUPER D Tomcats that are being withdrawn sometime around 2010.
in the vid its got something like a A-6 wuld have for a ata refueling probe but its to small to be a refueling probe for a A-6..those things are HUGE! Looks more like a A-4 refueling probe or somthing similar...

thats my .02$

Intruders were decommissioned but not Prowlers...Prowlers are the only tactical airborne jamming platform available to the US military now, if you discount the cargo/airliner conversions. The Navy should be in the middle of rolling out a capability upgrade right now for the Prowlers, in fact...these birds most likely won't go away until the electronic-warfare version of the Super Hornet comes online in squadron-level numbers, and even then they might retain them.
