You're doing a hybrid so you are stuck with what you have. If your heads have three oil drainbacks then you are probaby fine. Run quality oil. It should not cause any more worry than your 2.5L had since it will be oiling and draining exactly the same.

Now if you wanted to improve drainback you can tap holes in the sides of the heads at the rear and run tubing down to the block skirt to drain that oil that could be pooling up in right hand turns. No one has done it but it is do-able.

Why? Did you determine that was the better way to go after doing your hybrid and then doing your complete 3L?

Just wondering.....

Do the hybrid right and you'll be very satisfied and it will not be inferior to the whole 3L.

You could use an accusump or moroso oil accumulator with an electric valve. I have a 3L and have one just to be safe, plus it's nice to lube the top end before actually starting the car

Of course they do. I'm running one right now...but only due to convenience and because I was experimenting...and I got a fair price for my old heads which at this point I wish I hadn't sold.

Odd that I come across this thread ... I was just reading on MEG where there are questions of fitment under the hood of a the ST220 manifolds. I'm kind of curious about this, so is this why you're making a hybrid duffgun ... have you heard about this manifold fitment issue ?

There are lots of good reasons that people do hybrids, here are two;

(1) Cost
(2) Maintaining the 'stock' 2.5L look for insurance reasons....

It's not cheaper to do a hybrid.

Both engines look the same and use the same valve covers in the end.

Those are not good reasons.
