Don't pump the pedal anymore. Our Contours (Mystiques) are fuel injected vehicles. If you pump the pedal, it sends a message to the computer that the car is flooded, and the computer in turn shuts off all fuel. If it won't start when you crank it pumping the pedal won't help.

Edit. Per owners manual, V6, at temp greater than 10 degrees F, if the engine does not start in 5 secs on first try, wait 10 seconds so you do not flood the engine, then try again.
