Was anyone else shocked when hearing about this?

I'm only wondering, because he is a great driver that I have watched for several years. He ruled last year and seemed almost flawless! It seemed as though he wanted a new challange, even last year.

Personally, I think he saw all the other great road racers; such as Boris Said and Ron Fellows come into NASCAR and not do so great, this year, and thought he could do better. But I was proved wrong when I read this on NASCAR.com. Seems as though RCR and Tracy have been talking for several years now... so, to me, that puts a whole new spin on my perspective. Spin, as in right down the tubes.

I will say though that I look forward to seeing Tracy battle it out with other Cup drivers. Not so much to see how he fars. I think he will do well, since he is with RCR. But more over to see a Champ Car Champ battle with an IRL (INDY, Tony Stewart) champ.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this or is it just me?

I think paul is doing it purely for the money and fame. He will be a well known name in nascar. Most nascar fans are like "champ what?, indy what?, whats a formula 1 car?"
If it doesnt have fenders a tube chassis and pushrods they dont want to hear about it. And we all know there are MILLIONS of nascar fans in the good old US. Anyways, im sure he will do well. as long as they give him a fast car he will win races. and he will make alot of money. Most people that are in champ car that are in it cause they love open wheel racing aspire to step up to f1, not take a step down in the evolutionary racing scene. thats just my 2 pennies.
and i exept the flame suit know for hating nascar.
And i wont root for paul tracy any more.

I agree with you, almost. The fact that Paul will be famous because of his time in NASCAR would be demining to him or any other racer out there today! I "do" think that most of us "true race fans" will remember his time there, but not see that his crowing acheivement will be made there, in NASCAR.

As far as him doing well... Well, that is the great thing about racing, we will have to wait and see! I hope that he will do well, and yes, the fact that he is with RCR is a great leap forward in the sport. I can only imagine what my favorite driver of all time, Boris Said, would do with a team like Roush or Hendrix (in Cup racing anyway).

Your point about the eveloution of drivers to F1, in open wheel, opens up a whole new topic. Can they really cut it? I think they can, but they choose not too. Why? Because I feel that F1 suffers from the same elements as Cup drivers face.

Bottom line... There are Race Car Drivers and there are Rock Stars! Thats just how I feel anyway. This statement comes to mind every weekend I see all the dirt track drivers driving through the town I live in, just to go spend several thousand dollars to have fun.

No Dub! NASCAR banging is ok, just as long as it is constructive and I would have to say that your post was one of the more creative posts to date on this topic.

Thank You! If it gets out of hand, I can handle it.

Lol, if you think its appropriate to lock a thread because someone stated their opinion you may want to get off the internet and close the door to your safe room.

I happen to think Nascar is plain silly, bunch of race car drivers wasting their time's driving old technology cars in a circle with very little excitement. However, I'm sure you would disagree and that's fine, IT'S OKAY TO DISAGREE... No need to get defensive...

I also became flame bait because i insulted nascar fans. Heck one of my best friends is from n carolina and he is a huge nascar fan, and hes a hell of lot smarter than me. Just dont tell him that, or it might go to his head

Boris and Ron are hardly contemporaries of Paul--except that Ron is also Canadian. Boris made his name as a touring car and Trans-Am racer; Ron first in Trans-Am then at Le Mans in the Corvette. Christian Fittipaldi would be a better comparison because he at least spent time in an open-wheel car.

I can't believe you would think Boris has done poorly. This season he's started five races with an average finish of 25th, completed 95% of the laps runs, and was very competitive at Daytona after starting 4th. These results are much better than such from 20 other drivers.

When was the last time Tony had his arse in an IRL car much less for a full season? Tony is a Cup veteran and champion with tens of thousands of miles of experience and you're wanting to a competitive comparison with a guy who has slid through the window of a stock car a dozen times, at most! A bit optimistic aren't we?

Please back away from the Hooked on Phonics. It is "Hendrick" as in Hendrick Motorsports. I'm surprised a NASCAR "fan" such as yourself didn't know that.
