Just wondering since I'm about to put in a newer tranny into the car.

Do I have to return my old one to the wreckers??

I paid some "core charge" that says I have to return my old tranny to them for my refund on that. Its like $50.
The only information that they have is my cell # and a debit card receipt.

The reason I'm asking this is I'm sure somebody here would want to get there tranny done in the future. So I'm sure I can sell my tranny for a lot more than $50.

The tranny itself weighs 150-200 lbs and can be put into a trunk if anybody would want Terry in Michigan to rip it open , upgrade it, put in a LSD and they would have a brand new tranny!

Whats wrong with the original tranny?
How many Kms on it?
Manual or automatic?

If you look up my posts.. grinding 2nd & 3rd gears..

Something Terry can fix when he pops in a LSD..

but that would blow my budget totally..

98.5 Contour V6 MTX (Manual 5speed)

I bought my tranny from the wreckers in Fergus. It was $450 with a $100 core,making it $550. I returned my old tranny to the wreckers after it was replaced.

Are you going to have Alex do your tranny for you?

If hes willing to do it SURE! but have to find him though.. Alex would you do a tranny? I'm sure I can pay you?

I have found a shop to do it beside my work, but there main guy is on vacation for two weeks.. so in the mean time I am searching for other options.

I highly suggest Alex. He did my swap for $500 cash,giving me the club discount. All the other state of the art garages I went to wanted $1400 to remove and reinstall the tranny.

If you can get a hold of Alex,mention Mike with the green Contour from C7 Performance and he should give you the discount.

If you can't find anyone to do your trans swap I can do it for you.

I've done alot of swaps, repairs and rebuild on just about any kind of car over the years. Changed engines alone at least a dozen times. For example, rebuilt the engine of my '85 Porsche 928 after the previous owner broke the timing belt. Just finished building and installing a supercharger for it. All the bracketry and plumbing was built by me. She's roughly putting 400-410hp to the wheels. Put myself through college with buying-fixing-selling cars. I mostly work on my own cars, but if you are in a pinch I can help you out.

Changing the tranmission on Contour/Mystique is essentially the same process as most of the front wheel drive cars. 2 evenings (or one Saturday)would be enough time to do it. I have all the tools, including an air compressor and air guns, needed for this swap.

Imo000 I think I will have to take you up on that offer over the winter (Unless I get money before then). Can you PM me a price?

I'm also a big Porsche fan so I will need to come check out your 928:D
