So expensive when I look at it. I did all my own work on my hybrid and the machine shop work I did have done including new valve seats and machining came to less than $400. There was no block work since the block was low miles so that would add to it but I'd think having it 'tanked' for a good cleaning and have it "mic'd" for cylinder taper and wear wouldn't be much more than another $100 if no additional work was needed. You can easily install the rods and mains yourself. The mains don't need changed ANYWAY! Unless you are repairing a damage crank. Change the rod bearings of course but those are easy.
