After reading the FAQ, doing a search and reading my Haynes, I still have one question. My car has a squeak that seems to come from the rear. I understand the usual suspects are the sway bar bushings (mine are the OEM parts). Are there any other suspects that might be causing the squeak I should look into while I have the car's rear up on jackstands?

Most likely: Rear E-brak cable is rubbing against your underside - there is a rubber boot that keeps it from squeaking.
Next in line: Your back seat. Supposedly the foam on the underside of the lower seat can rub against the metal frame.
Highly unlikely: Struts have lots of dirt worked in them and squeak.

Most likely the e-brake cable if not the bushings first. I have the same problem. The cable actually wore right through the boot, and now rubs against it once in a while, and makes an annoying squeak.
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.

I have an e-brake cable rubbing issue for sure. What's the remedy?

Well right now as a temporary solution, I have zip-ties holding the cable up into the boot where it is supposed to be...I guess the best solution would be to buy a new boot to hold it up.

Thanks guys. I'm going to put my girl's back side up on jacks tomorrow, crank up some tunes, get out the grease, crawl under her and go to town.

Well, that was worthless...
I just got rid of the squeak under my Contour a couple weeks ago. It was the sway bar bushings...Very easy...

I'm sorry that my tongue-in-cheek innuendo offended you. I thought some slightly suggestive humor that did not directly state anything vulgar would inject a smile for a few people. It would certainly be preferable to the flames that occur all to frequently, but your subtle objection is a point taken.
The squeak turned out to be a combination of dry sway bar bushings and an emergency brake line rubbing against the body. Fixing these problems were no where near as big of a pain as changing the transmission fluid and filter on my wife's Ford ZX-2. A front-to-rear crossmember coveres one half of the transmission fluid pan. A swivel joint and socket as well as a boxend wrench were required. The job also required using a floor jack to raise the engine/transaxle approx. 1/2". The engineers responsible should be required to perform 10 fluid changes in five days as punishment.
