It's still under construction, but it should open in a few months. It's the first of it's kind in Utah. Before this all we've had was an "alright" drag strip and an oval track. There's the Bonneville Salt Flats, but I don't know of anyone building their car to beat the land speed record.
Miller Motorsports Park
Quote:
Miller Motorsports Park is projected to open in late fall of 2005 and will be developed on approximately 500 acres of property at the Deseret Peak Complex in Tooele, Utah. The site is easily accessible from Interstate 80 and just 25 minutes west of the Salt Lake City International Airport.
Miller Motorsports Park will be based on safety, quality and convenience. It will include 20 acres of multi-use paddock, track rental, vehicle storage, catering, concessions, fuel, equipment rental, high performance driving school and kart track.
The high speed multi-character road course will be designed to meet all appropriate safety and operational standards as would be required by any North American sanctioning body. It is being designed by Alan Wilson, one of the world's leading track designers. The 4.5 mile main road course will be the longest in the U.S. It will consist of a 2.2 mile East Track, a 2.2 mile West Track, as well as a 3.06 perimeter course. In addition to providing a high quality track for amateurs to improve their driving skills, Miller Motorsports Park will host premier regional and national racing events.
The level of paddock accommodations and service amenities will be among the best in the U.S. for this level of facility. The Miller Motorsports Park is designed to provide some of the best viewing opportunities of any track in the U.S. It has both close-up and full view visibility from the major spectator areas. There will be stadium viewing from five primary spectator zones, or â??oasisâ? areas, around the outside of the course. From these areas spectators will have a close view of significant overtaking/action areas as well as 95% to 100% sight of the entire course.

They are going to have a racing school with various levels of training, but I'm not sure if it's going to be like the NASA version.
Actually I was looking into going to Bob Bondurant's school in Arizona, and heard about Miller's track. Should be one of the best in the nation from what I've heard, but we'll see. Some big wig from F1 is going to run it, I'll have to see who it is for sure.

Well this track is just about done! It's a giant step for Utah to have something like this, and I cannot wait! The local SCCA will be having some of their events here and my SVT will be ready. Pics of the progress on the track.... I'm not the biggest race fan out there, but I am very curious what hardcore F1 fans and the like think of this track? How does it compare to others out there?

Some of it is open, correct? My roomie just did a "Ride for Cancer" or something along those lines, and Im almost positive that it was held there. If so, Ill have him chime in and let you know.
He did talk about the surface not being all that grippy cause its new, but he did love it. I believe MotoGP is looking into expanding to that track as well. Ive heard they want to drop Laguna because the corkscrew is too iffy for them (IIRC they want Laguna to shave down the entrance some so its safe for the riders).
Anyway, Ill have him post.
