The returnless (I don't know about the return system so I won't say anything about) has a small disc on the bottom of the pump housing. Thats the screen. There is also a "sock" that is on the pump, right before it goes through the pump.
There is also an external fuel filter that might help the problem too. If you look under the car near the passenger-side rear wheel, in front of it, you will see what looks like a small can, thats the fuel filter that im talking about. You can grab one from your local parts store for around $10, probably less.
Does the problem get worse when you have less gas?? Does the car seem to drive ok below 4000 rpm??
It could be a sticking IMRC too.... Does the car stutter up top or does it just feel gutless??
When I had fuel issues, my car stuttered when I had less than say, 1/4 tank of gas. But was fine when full/down to 1/4.
Hope this helps...
