I was looking at saturn ion's and L300's before I bought my SE. I don't think they are bad looking cars by any means. I even looked into a hyundai elantra GT hatch which I liked alot and felt was the poor man's saab. I was like..."people are gonna make fun of me if I drive a hyundai elantra" and then I realized that I'm driving a ford contour and while I love it, it's no better than the other's as far as "street cred"

and what exactly is your experience?
at least it's an ion...very nice, I might add.

these are exactly what you need dealing w/ this car...the ion is about the only car saturn has produced that hasn't had any chronic major/minor problems.
I just rid myself of a 2000 L series that I had to replace the motor in...55k, tell me that doesn't suck. The timing chain guides came loose, tangled w/ the chain & snap! It took 3 pistons & snapped the tops off 6 valves...this is also a very well known problem by saturn to which most of their replys have been "you didn't change the oil/poor maintenance", even if all the maintenance records have been presented (and I spoke w/ several people that had the same problem, which is where this info is from...in fact one of the guys used to be on ceg - I recognized his screen name). I never went to saturn, I don't have that kind of money to pay for their teardown/diagnosis & what ever they'd charge me for an engine. There was a little known fact (TSB) about an inferior oiler that starved the chain at low rpms that was upgraded if the cars came in for timing service, otherwise the public was not made aware of the problem. I won't even get into all of the electrical problems the car was plagued w/...and many others too, I learned from the saturnfans website. Yes the service at the dealerships is great, but don't expect the same from corporate.
1999 Sportage 4x4...don't go there, it was free
