From what I understand, all the carriers are going to digital because the FCC is requiring them too. Only what I've heard

You are correct, as far as I know all cells will be going to digital.

My friend upgraded from his T616 to the V3 black today (over the phone; it'll take a bit to arrive).

I wasn't. The (digital) Startac is easily one of the best phones ever made. Between the one I had and my friends I saw them go through pretty insane stuff (being put through the wash, dropped in the pool, closed in a car door). The only company that is similar in that aspect IMO is Nokia, they make some tankish phones.

While I can't speak for what they do for other Carriers but I know Moto still makes CDMA phones that have analog. My V710 is tri-mode as is the V265 and V215(??).

Ah, yeah, looking back I see now I had reversed your statements in my head. I think the two 'negatives' and then the 'positive' (all technically sarcastic, but in a way other than I had seen) threw me off.

It will take a long time to get there (several years), particularly in the more remote rural areas... unless they are just going to drop coverage there all together, which I don't think would be allowed...

It's like 7 years or something that they have before analog is out.

and I will most likely need a new phone before that... considering mine is over a year old right now...

Of course, I hate these small phones anyway... I like them big.
