i'd do it, depending on material and how well it could be without clouding up from scratches.

i was thinking Plexiglas but isnt that heavy? what about acrylic? or would they melt? confused

I would suggest transparent aluminum. But you might have to watch Star Trek IV a zillion times frame by frame to get the formula that Scotty typed on that computer! wink

Good one PackRat! Seriously, I don't think a clear hood is cool unless you're packing serious heat under the hood, as in Viper V10. laugh Interesting idea though....

You asked for opinions, so...

Downright goofy on any car. I don't care if I have warp drive under the hood, it's none of your darn business.

You looking at a Tuning Zubhore Catalog? Lots of real crap in there, mixed in with the actual performance stuff. Guess you have to play to the market, but geesh.

My 2 cents, which you asked for. smile

Take a look under the hood of your car sometime and then look at the little bits of dirt grime and dust that accumulate under there and ask yourself if you really want to keep cleaning and detailing..... not to mention anything clear short of glass is a pain in the rear to clean and keep scratches off of. If you are really in the mood to show off the engine compartment, remove the hood... you will notice better horsepower because the intake will be able to cool better than trapping the heat under the hood and if you have an open air intake, the air will be more plentiful and colder which will make better hp. Lastly, as far as looks go I would say honestly that a clear hood ranks right up there with gold trim and curb feelers.... good looking to some, but cheap looking to people like me unless this car is some sort of revolutionary prototype show car where you want to show off the engine compartment while at the same time giving people the look of what the car looks like with the hood closed.... the Contour is not some radical new idea.... we all have them and know what they look like.... no surprises.... and I like knowing that at least a few of my body panels on my car are still made of good old durable metal and that they match and compliment each other. But, coming from someone who did himself what other people hated, if you really like the idea, go for it... I would be a hyppocrite to say not to... all I am doing is dropping an honest opinion.
