Despite being a relatively safe area, it's still in a hotbed of terrorist activity. People in Egypt probably were thinking they were very safe, as well. I wouldn't put my family in that position for any amount of money. No chance.

Ray,
I was offered the same thing when i got out of the Air Force. I thought hard about it then realized that it wasn't something that i really wanted to be doing. The job wouldn't be bad and the pay is awesome but theres a reason all that stuff is paid for and why the pay is soo high..

People in London thought they were safe too. Don't visit London? What about us in DC or those in NYC? Don't move to DC or NYC either? Or for us to move out?

Ray's kid is young and it would be an experience (for all three) living in a different country for a few years. Now, if the kid was in elementary school, then it would be harder to uproot the family. If it was Baghdad they were moving to, I would probably chime in with a no.

Good luck. That's a huge, tough decision. I wish I had an opportunity like that, even though I'm not sure I would go to that part of the world right now. I think it is good that your wife will get an opportunity to stay home with your little one, if that is what she wants.

There certainly are a lot of good points to it, but some concerns as well. I tend to agree with the person that said there must be a negative reason they are willing to/ have to pay like that, to get someone to do the work.

And yes, we will/ would miss you. Promise to be at least a troll here?

If you were to pick a region of the world that has the most volatile history, which region would you pick?

To me, I wouldn't consider putting my family anywhere near that. The risk in terms of percentages may be very small but the results of the risks are potentially much more severe. Don't get me wrong, anything can happen anywhere, but money isn't a good reason to take that risk. If Ray were single, I'd tell him to do it without hesitation, but he really is the least important factor in this scenario (his wife/kid(s) being more important). And I don't mean that as a slight to Ray, I'm sure he would agree.

Which is one of the reasons why they are considering moving there. But whatever you decide Ray, we will be happy for you and your family. Er.., if you say no to that, think about the DC area.
