ok, I've been to home depot and lowes, and I can't find which department copper/brass caps are in. I was probably staring right at them, but nobody knew wtf I was talking about. so the trip wasn't for nothing I got the only 1/2" cap I saw, a galvanized cap. I suppose if I could drill through the top of it, might it work? otherwise, where are these damned caps!

Uh, Home Depot plumbing section man!
They come in plastic bags and some are loose in small bins.

I'd go down & look again . My HD has 100's of 'em . They should be right there with the 1/2" copper pipe , the elbows , the joiners , etc . They're to cap the end of a 1/2" copper pipe w/solder . Maybe just ask a HD dude while you're there in the plumbing section . You'll be sayin' "Dag - How'd I miss those ?!?!" LOL !

well, sorta, I went back and they didn't have any copper ones. had a couple brass ones, so I guess they'll do, like a dollar more than copper though

Jeez, I'm trying to picture someone using a galvanized water pipe fitting, knowing how the outside of that sucker is SO much bigger than a 1/2" copper end cap...
Any old/former plumbers here want to talk with him about doing leaded joints on cast iron sanitary drain pipe, and don't forget the oakum?
