Leasing is better if you trade cars in every two-three years. I read an article about the big problem of negative equity that people are carrying every time they purchase a car and then trade it in, it keeps piling up and they end up financing 2 or 3 cars on one loan. It's nuts.

That's just people too impatient to wait for good prices on the car they want. They see a new car and want it. Now.

I financed my Mazda6 with no money down, just make the monthly payments, and will sell it for a small profit next month. And it's not like the Mazda6 is a model of value retention. I just waited until the end of the model year to buy is all.

That doesn't mean that leasing isn't a 'better' idea for someone flipping cars, because it almost always is, but there's no reason why you can't flip your cars every couple years and still be right-side-up when you do. You just can't buy them as soon as they come out.

'04s have an additional serious problem affecting control arms that's being addressed right now as well.

stop the effing press here
my experenses with this site leads me to think atx = transaxle
witch in terms means unless the engine is in the rear it means front wheel drive
so ny saying atx rx-8 does that mean the car is frot wheel drive ??
ive read a few story i thought they were rear wheel drive
if thats the case just say automatic

im confusing myself again

I think the next two or three cars that we buy are going to be leases, because with one baby now and hoping for at least one or two more in the next five years or so, our space and technology needs will change pretty dramatically through that stretch of time, and maybe even over the next decade. I think we're going to look really hard at the Mazda5 when it comes out as a small family hauler to replace our 6i, because we don't need a bigger minivan than that and we don't like sport-utes all that much. Plus, the value on the Mazda5 is pretty amazing.

Technically it's just an "AT" RX-8 since, as stated, a RWD car generally doesn't have a Transaxle. Some do though -- the current Ferrarri 612 has a rear transaxle and many Corvettes also have used them IIRC.

MTX and ATX are just the commonly used terms though, for Automatic and Manual Transmissions, whether they are referring to a transaxle or not.

I test drove an RX-8 when they first came out, however, they only had the version with the push button shifting on the steering wheel, no clutch. I was not impressed at all. It seemed awkward to me, but I guess you could get used to it. Of course, you could switch it in to automatic or "sport shifter" mode as well.

Still, if I was going to get one, I'd go with the standard manual transmission.
