If you like the Jag, get it. It's a nice package.

Some people are never satisfied. The Saab uses the same platform as the Saturn, but no one whines. The Audi uses a VW platform, but no one whines (saw my first Audi S-3 yesterday... a nice upscale Golf).

The X-Type is handsome. I think it's interior is quite nice for the range.

And by the way... chicks DIG Jags way more than BMWs. Or, you could get an SVT Lightning, and just p*ss on everyone.

1000.

X-Type and Lincoln LS are the same platform, so if you want sports car effects with the X, then you may not be satisfied. Unfortunately for the LS, you can't get the V8 with a manual.

And by the way...
The only auto brochures on my desk at this time-BMW!!! A 330ci in elecrtic red=WOW!

anywho, the CTS is a really good value if you don't mind the styling (I like it). The G35 is supposed to start under $30k which is a nice kick in the balls to BMW. I like jags a lot, very exclusive but I would have a hard time paying $40k+ for a mondeo

BMW's in my opinion are more overpriced than mercedes are now.

A good friend of mine got a '96 5000 Aero sometime in 2000 and sold it a year afterwards because it was too $$$ to maintain and repair. He spent over $3k Cdn on repairs the year he had it, which is way way more than what I've spent on my '98 Contour (or would've spent if I didn't have an extended warranty) in the 2.5 years I've had mine. And it's not like his Saab was a lemon either - besides the clutch, these were mostly little things which you would expect to be cheap to fix.

Sure, with 230hp and 250 lb-ft on tap and a 5-speed manual the Aero had plenty of go and though it had a rather firm suspension it just did not feel very sporty to drive, thanks to its no-feel steering.

Anyways, he sold it after a year and I bet you can't guess what he replaced it with...

Black '98.0 GL V6/MTX, tints, SVT airbox (sans fender boot), stock muffler replaced with spiral racing muffler, A6 side markers, Cougar 16" polished wheels w/ bald 205/50/16 Yoko A520's, Mobil 1 5W30, Castrol SATF/Ford FM tranny cocktail, 9005 high-beam bulbs all around, re-aimed stock foglights

How do you figure? A base X-type with no options is $30K ($29,995 actually), and has 194hp.. A base 330Ci w/ decent options is $34K, and has 225hp. Doesn't seem like a bad deal to me smile

My dad loved Saab's. Then again he is a mechanic and the labor bills on them were outrageous and he made lots of money off them. LOL!

my son has an automatic is300 and my wifes 3.2tl can and has beaten it more than once, both off the line and up to about a 100 mph and just from a rolling stomp. his car looks way better than mine, much more style even if it does look like a tricked out civic. i would imagine that i could hang with a mtx is300 in real world conditions with my 3.2tl because most normal car owners do not abuse their mtx cars the way magazine testers do to obtain those maximum performance numbers, where as they just mat the automatic cars the same way their owners do. just wish my tl had a little more flash to go with its performance. still love the car.

I would say that the 9-3 isn far from cheap! its also imho a design that has some of the best engenering in the world, flaws or thats what you call them usually end up being the reason many love the cars so much. I can see that the lack of a tilt colum is a problem, but my seat always ajusted perfectly.....

Anyways the new 9-3 will be out in the fall a gorgeous car www.saabcarsonline.com

I will also agree they can be costly to maintaine, I sold mine after my moms neighbor moved, he was a saab mechanic! stuff that was funny was say an altenator $1500.00 OUCH! or a ring and pinion set at $1200.00. I simply bought a used trannie at $550.00 I only owned one a 1985 SPG bought with 100k plus and sold at 290k miles the cars still in service with a 16 year old girl her older brother beat on it for three years prior, the cars at 377k miles and still running strong! They grow on you thats for sure!

The 3.0 A4 looks very nice! I just saw 2 on the freeway. What is the performance on those things? I do think they are kind of pricy though...

After test driving damn near every car mentioned in this post, I'd say my choice would be a manual Acura 3.2 CL-S or TL-S by a landslide. If you haven't test driven this car, do yourself a favor and go check them out. The seats are plush, the interior styling is spacious and attractive and with a nice set of 18's or 19's, that would kill off anyone saying the styling is too bland. the thing is damn quick too and despite the fwd, it car handles well and would more than meet the needs of most people shopping in the near-luxo segment.

I also loved the IS300 and would consider that heavily especially if you want to go the aftermarket route.

personally, I'd go the used C5 route and slap on a ligenfelter s/c laugh
