I'm a computer technician, and I am at work right now. I am currently using a customers computer to go on CEG.
The customer brought their computer in because it was running slow and had possible viruses. Turned out to be just adware and spyware. Cleaned it up and the computer is running great. I start opening some programs and icons to test the computer out and I open the My Documents folder and find it filled with nothing but child pornography.
So now what do I do? My company has already busted 2 different guys for this. One was a long term FBI case and they were after this guy, the other we just called the local PD. Both times was not handled by me. Was done by another tech.
Should I notify my boss? Can reporting a customer effect business in the future? Should I just call the PD?
Never been in this situation before but child porn is not something I tolerate.

I would assume you would just tell your boss and let him handle it

If it were like just a site in his history i wouldnt really do anything because people mess up sometimes looking for one thing/finding another, but storing child porn means that whoever is doing it means to, so definately tell your boss. If it affects business, so what, do the right thing.

Yeah, I wanted to fix my post about the business thing. I'm not saying I want to let the guy slide because of it, but should I maybe handle it outside the business, on my own time? Like make a random call to the PD and give all the guys information and let them search his house?

Basically what we are telling you to do is just tell your boss. That way it's up to him to handle it and you have done your job.

If you find it in his "My Documents" folder repeatedly then it surely is not a "mistake". However, you should take it up to your own consience to bring him out or not. If it was me I'd get him canned.

and if your boss doesn't deal with it then I would call the cops and handle it outside of your job
