Someone has a 98 SVT for sale that supposedly has problems with the "rod bearings". How serious is that? Roughly how much should that cost to have it repaired? Would it be better to get a full rebuild? If so, what should that cost? TIA.

If you have a problem with your rod bearing then your engine is toast! Your engine should be producing a very loud knock and you won't be able to drive. If your bearings are toast then so is the crank. Time for a new engine.

It's not that cut and dry. If found in time and after inspection of the crank it could possibly be saved. Been there done that (in my SHO that is). Seems like the SHO's are a different story. The guys on the SHOForum seem to be the only ones I've heard of that have saved and engine. Not sure what the differences in crank material are.

think of it as a good way to get that car cheap, then have an excuse to put a 3L engine in it which will give you more power than the stock svt engine anyways. If you can do engine swaps yourself it would maybe be a 1-2k investment, have someone else do it maybe 2-3? (someone correct me if I'm way off)
Check out the 3L forum for more info on a 3L swap.
