You've got to be kidding me, right? I have yet to drive a car that compared with the driving experience of the BMW 3-series (except for the BMW M-Coupe, WOW!). Granted, the e46 platform "feels" a bit softer than the e36s did, but when you look at the numbers, you realize this just isn't the case. The IS300 was close, but is seriously down on power, and has an interior that is lacking in the luxury department.
As for pricing, it's all about who you know. I was able to get any 3-series I wanted at $1400 over INVOICE plus $133 doc fee. With some more haggling, I could have probably gotten that number down even further. So that's $34,178 right off the bat, which is pretty competative with the IS and A4 3.0 prices.
