Sounds like this might be one of the classic symptoms of the "bang shift" is what CD4E owners like to call it... Basially the Shift sensor on the side of the transmisson is calling the wrong shots when it comes to down and upshifts... Easy fix, you can get the updated shift sensor for about... $25... Even if this isnt the case, its a good thing to have because it makes the trannie last longer.
