It is the same philosophy that Wal-mart uses with grandma greeting you at the front door. It lowers your guard and makes you feel more comfortable.
the problem is that he doesnt like the way they do their busniness and wants to leave. compusa started trying to make us do that used-cars sales crap and it was disgusting. Managers have no moral issues with signing up people for credit cards ontop of other credit cards from our store they still havnt been able to pay off, and sell them the highest end products complete with 2k worth of crap they will never use. sure those people that are getting deeper into debt should know better, but i know my managers knew better, and thats just the kind of place i wouldnt want to work, and it seems he doesn't want to be in that kind of place either.
they way they do business is awful and my conscience is beginning to kick in. we are pushed to offer everything imaginable over and over and it gets extremely repetitive. the managers claim that we are offering the "complete solution" now who in their right mind would pay 250 bucks for antivirus and spysweeper and have it installed in their own home. i only have to stay there 2 more weeks until i get my bonus check but its like climbing a mountain and theres always something getting in the way. i will sooooooooo relieved when i can leave and will never have to walk in that awful store again.
Time for you to get out of sales.

so all sales is dishonest?I understand companies are there to make money, but I would have assumed that some of them would not be in the business of ripping people off.
However I totally agree, from what I've seen most stores are like this, so if you would like to have and practice some morals and ethics, the sales world isn't the place for you.

I currently work at bestbuy and i think its a decent place to work. Ill admit some of their policies are abit out there , btu thats their marketing strategy. And every salesman there isn't high school kids who dont know anything. they are really knowledgable people who help folks that have never owned a computer before , or never knew anything about digital cameras. The best thing anyone can do there as an employe is offer the customer options. I have worked in every department except apliances. What i have learned is, it is really not about selling the product but its about selling yourself and being honest with the customer and yourself. If the 90 year old lady needs cables to her dvd player then sell her the cheapo's instead of the monster cable that bestbuy wants you to sell her. thats how i look at it and i have fun everytime i go in their I guess their strategy's payoff. they are the number one consumer electronics retail store in the world. just my .02 take it how you want it

You should extend this policy to everybody. Monster is crap for the price. Do "Everyman Joe" a favor and don't push the Monster cable.

Crutchfield is ok but their prices are ridiculously too high.
the internet is your friend. ebay and online stereo shops.
Where I live, Sears has one of the most comprehensive selections of TV's around. The only other place to shop is Wal-Mart, and everyone knows their electronics are junk. Rumor is that Best Buy is coming to our area, but Sears is easier to do business with. I don't buy online...period.
last time i was in walmart they had plasma tvs. i bought my mom's 52" RCA tv there for $200 less than Circuit City had it. walmart doesnt have a killer selection like Goodguys but some of the stuff is ok.

I used to work at a best buy. I loved the discount, but hated the extra crap they expected us to push. I like the extended warranty plans on expensive products, but they try to push it on everything. No....my $15 ps2 controller does not need a warranty. I refused to offer customers netflix, gamefly, or magazines. I never pushed the super expensive gold plated, blessed with holy water monster cables. I really miss the discount, and might go back to buy some more goodies.
During my three months as a seasonal employee I spent about three times what I earned. Management didnt like that and thought I was abusing the discount for my friends. They just wouldn't believe that I had another full time job.
I bought:
30" toshiba widescreen HDTV reg.$900 I paid $600
Roadmate 300 GPS system reg.$700 I paid $400
lots of audio and video cables at about 10% of whatever the regular price was. Ex: $10 xbox controller extensions were $1
Speakers for my GF's car reg$200 I paid $100
I bought a lot more stuff, but can't really remember. I would walk out with shopping bags full of new purchases after every shift.
Anybody want to hook me up in the Tampa area with an employee discount on a radar detector. I will give you a cash bonus for your services

ive bought a few RCAs and never had a problem. now Sharp on the other hand makes some serious POS stuff.
in fact, i plan to buy another one for myself. PS2 looks incredible on it! more fun to play on PS2 on that tv than my 36" WEGA.

Why didn't u tell me my best friend is supervisor at the westland bestbuy store. lol
Anyways i hate bestbuy, i believe it is a cult. All the people there talk about bestbuy non-stop as if they are in a trance in or out of work. I am so surprised that the people i know who quit working there say that they believe it is a cult and hate it also.
I reject your reality and substitute my own.
