Sounds like you've been warned twice, so what's the problem? The theory is that they want you to establish a rapport with "potential" customers. The next time that customer comes in, they will look for you(even though you won't know who the frik they are). It is the same philosophy that Wal-mart uses with grandma greeting you at the front door. It lowers your guard and makes you feel more comfortable.

May I don the wisdom of Great Elky, and try this at the next Best Buy experience? That's awesome!
I've never had a problem. Though, I know exactly what I'm getting before I take a 25 minute drive out of my way.
Internet is definately your friend, so are forums. Lots of stuff can be answered before you buy

the problem is that he doesnt like the way they do their busniness and wants to leave. compusa started trying to make us do that used-cars sales crap and it was disgusting. Managers have no moral issues with signing up people for credit cards ontop of other credit cards from our store they still havnt been able to pay off, and sell them the highest end products complete with 2k worth of crap they will never use. sure those people that are getting deeper into debt should know better, but i know my managers knew better, and thats just the kind of place i wouldnt want to work, and it seems he doesn't want to be in that kind of place either.

I avoid best buy like the plague, I cannot stand how the sales people try to sell you those extended service plans on EVERYTHING. I appreciate being informed about products and services that I might not know about. I can make up my own mind, I dont need someone to keep bugging me to buy it after I have have already said no.

they way they do business is awful and my conscience is beginning to kick in. we are pushed to offer everything imaginable over and over and it gets extremely repetitive. the managers claim that we are offering the "complete solution" now who in their right mind would pay 250 bucks for antivirus and spysweeper and have it installed in their own home. i only have to stay there 2 more weeks until i get my bonus check but its like climbing a mountain and theres always something getting in the way. i will sooooooooo relieved when i can leave and will never have to walk in that awful store again.

Used to work there, Store 322. I hated it, loved the people I worked with. I hated it mostly because management was under so much pressure and that got passed down onto us. Also because the customers treat you like you make 100k a year and I am their slave. I sold computers and the customers would not listen to what I had to say because they had such a bad time with other computer sales people that didn't know anything about what they sold.

It's $8.99 for a replacement plan for a ~$50.00 cordless phone. I work at customer service so I see all the crap that's returned all the time. I'm actually pretty satisfied with the job. I love the people I work with, but I can't stand some of the rules and policies we have to abide by (EWSI anyone?). I think selling magazines at an electronics store is retarded, but I really do believe in the replacement plans we offer. They aren't usually priced bad, and they can be very helpful in the future. Oh and as far as talking about the plans after you say no: we have to do that or we get yelled at, plus if we are successful consistently, it gives us a better chance to get promoted.

Crutchfield is ok but their prices are ridiculously too high.
the internet is your friend. ebay and online stereo shops.
Where I live, Sears has one of the most comprehensive selections of TV's around. The only other place to shop is Wal-Mart, and everyone knows their electronics are junk. Rumor is that Best Buy is coming to our area, but Sears is easier to do business with. I don't buy online...period.
