The only time I buy from Best Buy is when I've thoroughly researched what I'm looking for. I get really tired having their high-school kid sales associates giving me a bunch of BS. I have also found that their prices aren't really that great, usually I can find just as good prices at Crutchfield or Sears. I visit Best Buy maybe once a year, as the advantage of being middle age, is that I already have all the electronic toys I really need! If I'm going to upgrade my stereo system any more, there are several high-end audio stores around here....even in Kansas!

i feel bad for you guys that go in there for the car stuff. those wiring harnesses are usually $4-6 with the employee discount and cables are marked up almost exponentially. a 10' usb cable that sells for 37 bucks is 1.21 with the discount. i do believe that many people there are truly brainwashed. after working there only a year it takes its toll heavy. i cant even begin to count the numerous times i have lied to customers or sold them something that they didnt need. its just really sick what that company does to earn money. im tired of working there and anyone considering working there heres some advice: LOOK ELSEWHERE!

i am on the verge of quitting. i have been there a year. i am waiting until my bonus check then im gonna tell them they can shove it. im also ranting because of what happened tonight. ill try to keep this short, but i was sent home early because i failed to ask a customer for their name while they were shopping for printers. our store has this new rule where if you dont get the persons name or are out of the area you are assigned to then you get a verbal warning, the second time sent home and the third is termination. the company beleives by getting the customers name that they will feel more comfortable shopping there and will spend more money there and will be a loyal customer. from a customers point of view, i feel it is downright creepy and an invasion of ones privacy to ask for their name.

great, just what we need, in-store car salesmen
i like there to be help when i need/want it. but not i absolutely hate it when store sales-people use this approach. it is creepy.

you can thank all those morning brainwashings at 7am for contributing to people not knowing what they are talking about. ive never had a problem with the techs at my store, they are all reasonable knowledgeable.

I'll agree on you with the creepy part. Also, you get warned for being 'out of your area'? How many times have I been in (for example) televisions, find nobody to ask questions so I go one aisle over to telephones and ask them? If you go searching for someone actually of the televisions department to talk to me, do you get punished? I had a friend who worked there for two summers. The first one, he was in the computer department -- understandable, as he's very knowledgeable and can pursuade purchases like nobody's business. For example, he got one guy, coming in for an eMachines, to buy TWO higher-end machines instead ... and once when the manager asked the crew to sell some stupid $199 "home install" service that nobody's been able to sell yet, he sold it three times that very day! Due to a rule not accepting hiatuses at the time, he was forced to quit entirely when he went back to school and reapply the following summer. You think they'd want him for computers again, being so good? Nope, the "only opening" they had was second/third shift truck unloader. He took it thinking he could get transferred to any sales department ASAP, but never was ... so two months in he quit for good. The prices for cables and miniscule things is insane; I suppose they'll mark things up as much as they can if it will still sell. At least for two summers I got the 'benefit' of a friend working at BB
