i've wondered the same thing

would the heat sheild pictures shown on this page be ok to do, a box with the top open, or do i want more of the filter exposed? so basically im asking if the pictures in this are too much of a sheild

nice heat sheild there. The whole idea is to block the heat from the engine. enclose it on every side but where the cold air from the fender comes in. The hood makes a seal on top. (providing you have something like the link shown above has). Look around, there are tons of them. And as for the "plug" my SVT didnt have one...so...

the top only appears to be open. when you close the hood the box becomes closed. that is what the pipe insulation lining the top of the vertical edges is about.

is that a good enough box or is it closed off too much not allowing enough air in? thats really the only question i had was if the box in the link would be ok or not

yes its good. it blocks off most engineheat, and is open towards thefender where the ducting brings the coler air in. thats the idea
