I'm thinking about buying a SVT. I have two general questions:

1) How do you tell the difference between a 1998 and a 1998.5?

2) What if any are the advantages in purchasing a 2000 versus a 1998?

TIA.

Luke

There are a few advantages, 2000, of course newer, nicer rimes. IIRC, more HP then before. I do not exactly know the main differences, but the 98 and 98.5 are pretty much the same if I remember correctly. For a bit more $ you can get a 2000, for a fair price. Also I THINK there were more made in the 99-00 model years so you might be more lucky to find one of those. Good luck on the search and welcome to CEG.

visually the 98.5 have the "Cobra R type" rims as the 98s have the soft round rims. and other minor differences. HP wise they are the same. IIRC the 98.5 have differently valved struts too.

The 00 is comestically the same as the 98.5, but it has the 'extra' 5hp and actually has a tick smaller motor, but a bump in C/R and seems to respond better to mods.

98's have better dashes, bigger brakes, better shift tower/cables?, better looking door ding gaurds, dash clocks, IMO better stock rims, a few others i'm forgetting, i'm not sure but i want to say the fuel pump issue doesn't affect them either.

Don't forget about sealed door seams. My 2000 is has rotting doors from these damn NE winters! All of the 98's I've seen don't have a spot of rust.

Don't forget, the 98 and the 98.5 had the water pump problem. IIRC the 99-00's didn't have the plastic impeller bad ones.
