This is what you have to do : Connect a wire to the battery and at the other end a relay, then connect the relay to the inverter. After that , connect the switch to the relay. This way the power doesnt go in the switch. Get a minimum 25 amps relay (25amps * 12volts = 300 watts) In case you want to add something else to the inverter.

Inverters shut off at around 10 to 11 volts. When you start your car the battery goes down to about 7 volts.
