Continuing the idiocy, tomorrow I gotta talk to the insurance guy and try to get him to understand that my car is worth at least $7,000 - 8,000 to replace. Any tips or suggestions from people who have had to deal with this? Thanks for any advice, it helps a lot.

E0 CSVT 58,000 miles, was in relatively good condition. Just replaced alternator and mega fuse, passenger side wheel bearing and axle, DPFE, EGR, ECT and fixed the fan relays. Mobil 1 only, every 3000. New ford motorsport wires. It already had a new WP, and it was lowered with slotted disc brakes (probably cheap). Also I had just got my new sound system installed..

Pictures, receipts, and paperwork will help justify your claim. Just be honest, and try to convey the message that you are attached to the vehicle. I didn't realize the vehicle was so low in mileage. Man, that really sucks. Well, let us know what happens. Good luck, man.

Problem is that all the work you did is maintenance ... should add to the 'reconditioning' amount, but not by very much unless it was done in the last 3 or 6 months.

If you took your can in to get work done, and especially if you have a good rapport with the guys who did the work, tell him to go chat with them. Bring along receipts for your sound system too.

Go on the web and find CSVT's for sale, and print them off as proof of your required costs to replace the vehicle.

If you can think of anything ... research it on the web and print it off, add all your receipts for any amount of time.

When this happened to me I had every single invoice for the three years I had the car, glowing reports from the service guys who worked on the car, printed adverts from autotrader for CSVT's (even though mine was a Mystique) book value for Canadian values, book value for US values, and telephone numbers/written quotes from people who had actually driven my car. Now I lucked out a little as the appraiser went to school with one of the service guys ... and the service dept. all love me too In the end I managed to get $7,000 CDN back, which was upped from about $5,500. The appraiser basically told me I could more or less have the going rate for an SVT as in his opinion I had 'turned it into an SVT'.

Bare in mind ... once your company tenders an offer to you, benefits stop, things like car rental coverage although I managed to get an extra week coverage.

Make sure you buy the car back if you can ... stripping it will seriously help recoup the costs, and especially all the new parts. Tell your company this NOW ... mine was sold from under my nose as soon as the tender went in.

Find some prices on SVTs in your area, or close as possible, that is likely about the price they'll settle for. Tend toward the higer priced ones in as good or slightly better shape than yours because your low mileage will be hard to match.

The adjuster will keep refering to the book value - ignore him. Remind him that their company gets to keep the car for salvage value also & tell him to add that to the total. Ask to speak to his/her superviser. They will likely also stonewall you, ask to speak to the next person up the line until you get a reasonable settlement.

If they drag it out more than a week, start talking about the Insurance Board & how you want to get them involved to settle things, and throw in a rental on their dime. Once the out-of-pocket costs start adding up, they'll be more inclined to settle.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Nameles! dont give in to what they say.

When my 99 svt was wrecked, I was worried they were going to low blow me with their offer so I did some research.

I printed out auctions from this site, and local auto traders that reflected more than what blue book was. I also provided reciepts for all relativley new parts i put onto the car.

Get a packet together like that and fax it to them, hopefully your insurance agent wont be lame.

Good luck!
