If you try and buff out all those red lumps of paint, you will wear away your clear coat. Think of it like planing wood, they use a flat plane to take away the high spots. After you razor off the drops, then buff it out.

Afterwards you can take it to the body shop and get it repainted, if you still dont like it.

Heh heh... Nah, I don't think I'm getting the 2005 Focus repainted, but your tip is very similar to what I've been trying for the last half-hour, and it works. I used a blade I normally use to remove paint from house windows, and it works. Maybe a thinner, sharper blade would work better, I'll see if I can find one around.

Thanks for your help!

That's what I'm afraid of, and also why I tried the clay bar before anything else, as I was sure I wouldn't damage the finish with it. I'm no detailing expert, so I'm pretty cautious about what I do... I have done stupid things in the past!

I've been able to remove most visible paint drops from my car!

I used a sharp razor blade, and a steady stream of water, to keep everything "lubricated" enough so that the blade wouldn't nick the car's paint.

I know that there are still some very small droplets of red paint, but you have to look very closely to see them, I'll get rid of them on my next day off... and it will be time for a new coat of wax!

Thanks a million for your tips and suggestions!

How did the paint drops get there? Could be a possibilith that it's defective paint from the factory and the QC manager was on lunch.

They weren't there when I took the car from the dealer, don't worry!

A week and a half ago we went to the Mont-Tremblant Blues Festival with some friends, and I suppose that's where it happened. We think I probably followed a truck that was loosing some paint, or we drove near a careless spray painter somewhere... It's a couple hours' drive from our home, and when we came back it was pitch black, so we really don't know where I got it from... It was all over the front of the car, bumper and all, up to the top of the windshield, and both mirrors too. None on the top (that I can see, at least), and nothing visible rear of the A pillar. I must've drove through a cloud of it or something - there are many construction sites near Mont-Tremblant, that's probably where it happened.
