Has anyone here used high performance head gaskets, such as copper in the V6?

There is no need.

The stock is an MLS (multilayer steel shim) graphite composite head gasket. It's extremely high quality.

then why do they fail so frequently? If you go on the Mondeo site you'll see hundreds of referances to it.

There are other factors that affect gasket life - clamp load, flatness of the components, etc. - it all makes a difference. You can put the best seal around in a bad joint and it will fail.

Are you talking about the 4 cylinder?
They are referring to the V6 headgasket.

There has not been one reported failure, due to a bad head gasket itself, here in the US.

The stock head gaskets are also used on the 300 to 400+ FWHP turbo engines. They handle it without batting an eyelash.

Like I have said before it sounds like the Euro spec head gaskets are not the same part that we use on this side of the pond. I've heard many times before about head gasket issues on Mondeos.

We need to get to the bottom of this!! HG's are failing all the time on the 2.5 Mondeo's,all the engines are US built-why would Ford spec. a different gasket for US markets and not their main market for this car/engine?? There must be THREE more threads on failed H/G's on MEG THIS MONTH! I've had one fail too-and they all go in the SAME place.

I don't know why the Contour's head gasket would be any different than the one on the Mondeo. It really doesn't make much sense to me... Maybe you Mondeo guys could get some gaskets from over here and use them as replacements??

It kind of makes you wonder what else the Mondeo duratec has that is different... I always thought they would've been identical...

This is becomming a challenge and a mystery. Mondeo V6 HGs pop like corks, nobody on the CEG site talks much about the HG or seems to have the plague, at least not with the frequency of the Mondeo guys. Somebody like Ray must have some insight???? Perhaps someone works for Ford?
