Definetly will be buying the DVD
elfman did a good job with the music, probably with some help from burton. but i give most credit to author roald dahl who wrote all of the lyrics.
Yep, you're right. Major oversight on my part. I really like the original movie, but this movie being more true to the original source material is a large part of why this one is just as good. Roald Dahl wrote some crazy stories, especially the ones not that didn't end up in the children's section.

The best part about the old one was the umpa lumpa songs, the new ones were gay.

My only problem was the new Oompah Loompas(sp?) just the dancing and the music to the songs! The classic ones were so much better. Other than that, good movie.

I dunno, on the one hand it was a good movie but not when you compare it to the original. The biggest disappointment was the boat ride. In the original that was one of the best parts...

i agree, the dancing was more comedic/annoying than it should have been. but the ones you heard in the new one are the "classic" ones as they were written before "willy wonka and the chocolate factory", but i agree the dancing and the way they were sang was quite annoying.

I just got back from seeing this, and your speculation couldn't be more accurate. But still, Depp plays the movie perfectly to what it's supposed to be. It is a different movie than the original, that much is clear. It is a little creepy; you get the feeling you're strolling through the Neverland Ranch, not some magical place where all kids want to be (ahhh, the ironies I guess).
I'd give it 4/4 stars without comparisons to the original. It's definitely one of the more entertaining movies I've seen in a while.
