Just a guess. A lot of it has to do with the fact that the car was bone stock when I bought it(obviously, it was new). I've bought pretty much everything brand new, and back when these parts were $$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Hell, the cheapest 3L I could find at the time was $800. Had to pay some overnighting charges, and some labor. Hell, that probably covers any maintenance that I've done to the car, which hasn't been bad at all. The fact of the matter is, I've spent an ish-load of money on the car, and I won't see 1/5 of it in return. I think I'm going to get into real estate.

A car is NOT a monetary investment, it's a sentimental investment ... you will loose money 99.99999% of the time (unless you bought a concept from the manufacturer auction block and sat on it for 50 years).

Oh I couldn't agree more. I never purchased the car with the hopes of turning a profit. The thing is, my priorities are changing, and cars aren't on the top of my list. If I somehow land a higher paying job that allows me to do house mods and car mods both, without worrying about what my checking account looks like, I'll keep the Contour. Right now, I'm looking more towards the future, as opposed to the hour or two per weekend that I actually drive the car.

Very true!

Brand new car: $20,000.00
Mods: ~$15,000.00
Resale of the $35k I have into this car: ~$8,000.00

House: $XX,XXX.XX
House mods: 1/6th of purchase price of the house.
Resale of house: 150% of purchase price not even 3 years later.

He bought it new I guess, like I did.

I figure the $23K for a new car is used up if you drive it for five good years and out of the warranty period. AFter that its just gravy if it runs good with low repair costs.

To figure out what the car Is worth you have to have some kind of standard measure. So I total up the costs of mods only since I do all my own labor, and then cut it in half and add it to the current value of the stock car to get a "fair" value on it.

I too have probably $15-18K into this car over the years to including stereo mods. That = 7500-8500. Then figure it is clean, has a lot of little creative extra mods that increase its value, and with only 61K miles on it making it a low mileage car, all that equates to a full $6500 value for the car itself.
