I wouldn't touch the warrenty work. It may be a hassale to lose the car for a day or two, but if you mess something up, you'd be screwed.

Most dealerships are 80-90/hr.

Even a skilled backyard mechanic charges 40/hr.

Mechanics have to make a decent living, just like the rest of us. I don't mind paying to have my work done, especially since I HATE working on cars.

Yeah, but if they charge $69/hour, the mecanic gets paid $15/hour, huge difference!! The shop makes the money not the salesman

Remember, they aren't all highly profitable shops. They have to pay rent, buy expensive equipment, pay heathcare and other benifits, and take care of utility bills and pay people to take care off all the paperwork associated with that stuff.

Nothing to do with what you were saying, I was just clarifying why it costs so dang much to have people work on your car.

I agree.
The prices are reasonable when you consider the typical 4 bay shop has a good 200k just in "shop" equipment alone. Rent, taxes, licensing, liability insurance, et cetera...
